Industrial Projects

Forming and Welding Tube Mill

OwnerTubular Steel

GCTubular Steel

Approx. Value$250-500k

Tubular Steel purchased an old tank manufacturing building and needed to completely redesign it to become a steel tubing manufacturer. We designed and installed all mechanical and process piping for tube welding steel mill, installing air, water and cooling systems with threaded, welded and victaulic steel pipeworks. We also completed plumbing retrofit of washrooms, and other areas.

Electrovia Installation

GCKeven Ferry Construction

Approx. Value$100-250k

The manufacturer required new battery technology to be installed. We completed industrial process piping, hot oil system and pneumatic systems. The hot oil rooms were new to us, and was a dust-free atmosphere that required dust-proofing for all penetrations. As the mechanical contractor, we needed to devise a way to complete the work while mainting a clean and safe work environment.

York Barbell High Fire Kiln Upgrades

OwnerYork Barbell

Approx. Value$50-100k

York Barbell required improvements to the manufacturing process at their plant. This was a custom process piping job for manufacturing kiln cooling. This job was unique because it was a design build which required specific details and calculations.

MTO Maintenance Yard

OwnerMinistry of Transportation Ontario

Approx. Value$250-500k

New construction of a maintenance garage, salt and sand storage, and an office facility. We completed the full mechanical envelope from the ground up, including below and above grade plumbing and all HVAC systems.

ESSO Tank Farm

OwnerImperial Oil

GCBlack & McDonald

Approx. Value$500-750k

The fuel distribution centre had some facility infrastructure that was aging, so we did repair and maintenance of fuel piping systems for tanker truck filling. In order to work on this site, our employees completed progressive training for Imperial Oil Contractor Safety Training Programs as well as the PMH, PM2 and PM3. Now that there is rejuvenated infrastructure, the safety of the tank farm has been improved. We also completed the same job at the sister facility in Nanticoke.

Hastelloy Reactors

OwnerDigital Specialty Chemicals

Approx. Value$100-250k

DSC required an upgrade to their equipment to improve a variety of chemical processes. We installed 2 hastelloy reactors, including positioning, securing, piping and welding, with various process piping systems tied into the reactors. The system was tested by radiography in accordance with ASME B31.3 requirements. With this upgraded system, DSC was able to improve their competitive advantage in the chemicals market.

In addition to larger projects at DSC, we provide regular service to maintain their systems. Some examples include hot water heating boilers, hydronic system and the plumbing system.

TTC Fire Ventilation Upgrade

OwnerToronto Transit Commission

Approx. Value$250-500k

As part of Toronto's underground subway renovation, GPPL completed the plumbing retrofitting of 24" sewers to accommodate a new fire ventilation addition at Lawrence station. With our millwright subcontractor, we lowered high velocity CFM fans 65ft into the cavity to position them. Afterwards, we installed diesel fuel tank and piping for the adjacent Fire Hall. As this was a municipal job, it required stringent and specialized safety training (confined spaces, working at heights, WHMIS, track safety). A great challenge for this project was positioning the 24" stainless steel sewers through open excavation. It required us to hang them from an above structure, with each 12ft section weighing 2500lbs. There was no existing fire ventilation system at all, and now the TTC has one in place which drastically improves the safety for passengers and employees of TTC.
